1) Over $90 billion in damages, and 200,000 people have left for the mainland. What do you think needs to be done to rebuild and stabilize Puerto Rico?

I think it is important that more non-profit groups begin to help repair damages within businesses and homes. I also think that they would benefit from the addition of a new power strip or source because their old one was over 40 years old and that is one of the reasons it was hard to keep it running during the hurricane. I do think that the government should help more with funding like they've done with the most recent hurricane in the south.

2) Should we continue to attempt to hold government officials accountable for the mistakes of Hurricane Maria, or should we focus entirely on the rebuilding efforts? Please provide reasons to support your views.

I think it's a combination of both- Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. and therefore the government should be helping out a lot more than it has been. I also think that the citizens should also begin to work on their own to repair things while they wait for government help.

3) How long do you think it will take Puerto Rico to recover? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? Explain.

I think it really depends on how much help and money they receive from everything. If our government steps in, I think 3 years at most. Look at the hurricane that hit Louisiana those few years ago, and now they are doing a lot better. I say 5 years at most if they get the help they've been needing and asking for.

1) Over $90 billion in damages, and 200,000 people have left for the mainland. What do you think needs to be done to rebuild and stabilize Puerto Rico?

I feel that since Puerto Rico is part of the US we should send people to help with the people in Puerto Rico and help rebuild homes and schools, even help repair their forests. I understand that we have already sent people to help and rebuild ,but if Puerto Rico is still in parts after a year we clearly need to send more help and money.

2) Should we continue to attempt to hold government officials accountable for the mistakes of Hurricane Maria, or should we focus entirely on the rebuilding efforts? Please provide reasons to support your views.

In my opinion we should do both ,because it's important to make sure that they realize that they made mistakes ,but we can't only focus on that when there still are people who had homes before the hurricane and still don't have one a year later. We should also focus making sure everyone can have access to electricity. Their are still people with homes that do not have electricity.

3) How long do you think it will take Puerto Rico to recover? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? Explain.

I think it may take anywhere from two to ten years, it all depends on what help our officials give and what money they are willing to spend. If we set this as a top priority than we may be able to get everything back and up and running in two years or if officials and the president set it off to the side they may be in a terrible condition for another eight to ten years.

Thanks, Zack. You brought up some valid points and I appreciate the empathy you expressed for those American citizens still without power or basic necessities. Nice work.

1) Over $90 billion in damages, and 200,000 people have left for the mainland. What do you think needs to be done to rebuild and stabilize Puerto Rico?

Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, therefore, the island should be promised the same protections as the states in the mainland. The same steps should have been taken for hurricane maria as hurricane Harvey and hurricane Irma. The government needs to set aside more funds to help get Puerto Rico back on it's feet.

2) Should we continue to attempt to hold government officials accountable for the mistakes of Hurricane Maria, or should we focus entirely on the rebuilding efforts? Please provide reasons to support your views.

I believe we should 100% hold the officials responsible for allowing this extreme letdown to take place. We should focus on ways of fixing their mistakes, but if we continue to ignore it, it only increases the chances of something similar happening in the future.

3) How long do you think it will take Puerto Rico to recover? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? Explain.

I honestly think without the help of the United States government, Puerto Rico will take quite a while to get back to normal, and the people of Puerto Rico may have lost trust for the US beyond the point of recovery. With help and donations, I think they could recover from physical damage in around 5 years.

Solid points, Michaela. I hope we see some significant progress in the near future, because those poor victims need the resources of the United States at their disposal. Thanks for taking the time to reflect on this topic.

1) Over $90 billion in damages, and 200,000 people have left for the mainland. What do you think needs to be done to rebuild and stabilize Puerto Rico?
I think that what needs to be done in order to help rebuild and stabilizing is that the US needs to go over there and provide resources and means for them. I think that once we go over there the main focus should be the building of houses. Then we should continue to rebuild the communities, which could be different for each community.

2) Should we continue to attempt to hold government officials accountable for the mistakes of Hurricane Maria, or should we focus entirely on the rebuilding efforts? Please provide reasons to support your views.
I think that we should hold the officials accountable for their mistakes as well as focus on the rebuilding. We should hold them accountable for it not to punish them necessarily but to teach them and other officials how we need to prepare better for things like this that happen. As well as the proper way to respond to events like this in the future. Along with that though we also need to continue to stay and become even more focused and involved on the rebuilding process. Since we need to be there for the people of Puerto Rico when they are in need of help.

3) How long do you think it will take Puerto Rico to recover? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? Explain.
I think that the time period for Puerto Rico to recover truly depends on how much we decide to help them. If we decide to give them nothing and just sit back and watch them struggle it will take a very long time, and it could possibly just keep getting worse and not better. But if our officials decide to take action and send funds and people to Puerto Rico then the recovery process will still take awhile but not nearly as long as what it would take if we weren't helping them.

I appreciate the time and effort you took to craft a heartfelt response. I hope people in our administration feel the same way. Try to provide details, examples, and quantitative data to support your views in order to be more persuasive to the reader. Nice work.

1) Over $90 billion in damages, and 200,000 people have left for the mainland. What do you think needs to be done to rebuild and stabilize Puerto Rico?
I think shelter and food should be provided for those who are still living in the mainland. Provide the Red Cross and doctors without borders for those that were injured do to the damages. Also I believe our country (The United States) should help rebuild and stabilize, since we are more advanced. Our technology gives us a greater advantage to help the people of Puerto Rico, by providing better resources.

2) Should we continue to attempt to hold government officials accountable for the mistakes of Hurricane Maria, or should we focus entirely on the rebuilding efforts? Please provide reasons to support your views.
In my opinion I think we should continue to attempt to hold government officials accountable for the mistakes, because not only the government should've been well aware that a hurricane was soon going to occur, they should've made sure the population would be prepared for the attack since it's common sense that a hurricane will do quite a bit of damage. The government should take responsibility to keep the citizens safe or else the population will decline and there will be more injures. I feel that we should focus on rebuilding the structures of Puerto Rico so residents could have their homes back also you never know, if they keep on delaying the process the remodel might never get finished and people won't have time to get ready for the next devastation.

3) How long do you think it will take Puerto Rico to recover? 1 year? 5 years? 10 years? Explain.
To be honest, it's really on the budget and resources avaliable, if it is a large sum of money, Puerto Rico get large funds and if the U.S agrees to share our advantages for the devastation. Otherwise without the expenses not being able to get paid off, it will take a longer time for Puerto Rico to recover.
