Here is a new approach to our extra credit article blog.  You must post a response to earn extra credit on this particular article.  To earn 3 EC pts, you must choose 3 cities from the list above and explain your interest in visiting those locations.  Once a city is mentioned, it cannot be used by another student.  Therefore, all responses must be posted for credit.  Review the list, note three cities of interest, and provide your input.

I would want to visit Cairo, Egypt. I would go to experience different architecture of their city and to witness the great pyramids since they are located right outside the city.
Next would be Beijing, China. I would visit since there is so much to see and I it is a whole new culture. They have many new arts and different architecture that takes more than a week to really take in what the city has to offer.
Last would be Timbuktu, Mali. I would go there first of all just to say I have been to Timbuktu. I would also go to see what a real battle field looked like and what towns used to look like. I would also like to see what maintenance they have to do to keep the city as it stands today.

Gondar, Ethiopia -- This place offers a rare look at Africa before colonialism. Also, because of the underdevelopment of tourism in Ethiopia, the visit would be more authentic.

Madurai, India -- I would be interested in visiting Madurai because of the amount of structures there that are dedicated to Indian mythology, architecture, and religion like the Meenakshi Temple.

Kyoto, Japan -- This city would be nice to visit because it has a balance between traditional Japan and modern Japan. Additionally, the Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines would be interesting to see, especially because some are still used.

Rome, Italy: I would like to visit rome to get a taste of their culture and to visit their popular historic places. For example, the Colosseum where many gladiators fought years ago.

Machu Picchu, Peru: I’d like to visit this place because it is one of the most popular ancient cities in the world, which makes it tempting to explore. Also, because the article claims it to be very enigmatic, which makes it that much more interesting to visit.

Athens, Greece: Art fascinates me, which it more intriguing to walk around the Greek ruins, art galleries, and monuments.

Bagan Myanmar: I feel like this would be an amazing place to visit, with over 2,000 temples it would allow you to really get connected and really view there culture and how they lived

Stonehenge, England: I would like to visit here because it is such a mystery that really intrigues me and it would really be neat to go and view it for myself

Istanbul, Turkey: I would be interested in visiting here because it lets you have a glance at these beautiful palaces, and it would be a really cool experience to view all of the ancient artifacts

Nimrud, Iraq because you get to see all the damage that ISIS did, and I believe it would be cool to just experience what the people in Iraq had to go through.

Poverty Point, Louisiana because not a lot of people know about it so it would be interesting to find out how people worked back then because when people lived there farming hadn't been invented so it would be cool to find out about how they had to do things.

Tikal, Guatemala because I believe it would be cool to go visit the temples and go someplace new and it would be amazing to see the views from the temple.

I would be interested in visiting Takht-i-Bahi Pakistan because the history and culture is very unique. Takht-i-Bahi was the site of a Buddhist monastery and throughout history some of it still remains. The culture is very different then what we are used to America and I think it's always interesting to explore cultures we don't encounter very often.

Another city that I would want to visit would be Boroburdar Indonesia. Borobudur is the largest tourist attraction in Indonesia. Like Takhi-Ti-Bahi this city holds ancient ruins. What is really interesting about the Buddhist temple in Borobudar is that most of the original artwork and architecture is intact still from being buried and recently recovered.

The last city that I would want to visit would be Xi'an China. Xi'an is home to thousands of Terra-cotta warrior statutes. It's compelling history make it one of the greatest archeological finds of all time.

I would like to visit Petra, Jordan because the layout of the city is very unique. It is formed by many gorges and canyons that create maze like passages. This kept it hidden from the Europeans for many years. I also think it is interesting that cars are not allowed within the city, so people must travel by foot, donkey, camel, or by carriage.

I would also like to visit Persopolis, Iran due to the remaining ancient architecture that survived Alexander the Great. Also, to see the breathtaking terrace carved from the Mountain of Mercy, would be an astounding opportunity. It is a great example of what an ancient city in Iran would have looked like.

Another city I would like to visit would be Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe in the interest of witnessing how it is prime a example of Africa's achievements before colonialism.

Angkor Wat, Cambodia: This city would be really great to visit because of the amount of detail put into the stone pictures, along with the very large statues and carvings. Also, since it spans over 150 square miles there is a lot to see.
Ellora, India: This city would be amazing to visit as it was carved into a mountain, so it would be breathtaking to see the amount of work put into it. The city also has many Hindu, Buddhist, and Jaina holy sites, which i find really interesting.
Machu Picchu, Peru: This city would be great to visit because of the high elevation, creating an amazing view. Also, my aunt has visited before and she said that it is an amazing experience.

My top 3 places I would visit are:
Ellora, India because I would love to see all the mountains and temples with the sculptures mad out of stone.
Madurai, India would be my next choice because I would love to see the 14 gateway towers guarding the shrines covered in vibrant colors and The Thousand Pillar Hall.
Gondar, Ethiopia would be my 3rd choice because it would be awesome to see the royal walls and all the castles or churches.

I would love to visit Rome, Italy. I have studied ancient Roman culture and I would love to visit the city to see the architecture and art in person.

Another city that would be interesting to visit would be Petra, Jordan. With its maze of natural landscapes surrounding it it's certainly intriguing, and I think it would be interesting to visit a city where cats are not allowed.

The final city I would like to visit would be Borubudor, Indonesia. I think it would be very interesting to visit a Buddhist temple, especially one which has been so well preserved over time as to have that much of the original art.
